Essential oils can assist with fertility problems

Last Updated on Monday, 08 March 2010 22:14 Thursday, 04 March 2010 21:36

Essential oils can assist with fertility problems. I'd like to share my personal story.

Owing to stress and stagnant lifestyles, more and more women are falling prey to infertility every day. What follows is a rigorous treatment involving hormones and other medication which causes a lot of stress to the mind and body. Being unable to conceive causes immense anxiety and frustration which only grows with time – this worsens the hormonal imbalance and further reduces a woman's chances of becoming a mother.

I can relate to the feeling as I have been through the same dilemma 15 years ago when I was trying to get pregnant. After 4 years of incessant but failed attempts, I created a blend of oils. My husband and I started to do regular massage on each other and the essential oils put my hormones back on track and within a month, I was on my way to motherhood! Essential oils have helped me in every phase of pregnancy and for many years after that. I have only aromatherapy to thank for blessing us with a healthy and cheerful child like Juan Martin. Providing a Relaxing Atmosphere for your Children with Aromatherapy

Wednesday, 24 February 2010 18:58

Providing a Relaxing Atmosphere for your Children with Aromatherapy My son Juan Martin was conceived thanks to the use of essential oils. My pregnancy, his birth and the 13 years that followed have been a journey of learning and discovery as to how essential oils can be part of a child’s life and help him grow healthy and strong.

But this is not only about my son; I’ve been privileged to give helpful advice to many mothers which in turn has helped their children. I have discovered that establishing a calming daily routine can help strengthen the parent/child bond, provide security to the child and enhance their immune system.

Here are some easy tips that encourage deep relaxation for a child’s mind and body:

BED TIME AROMATHERAPY BATH

Bathing with essential oils is a wonderful experience. Essential oils added to bath water provide a calming effect and can also help alleviate aches and pains. The table below will guide you on the correct age-appropriate dose for your child:

Age
Newborn None
2 – 12 months 1 - 3
1 – 7 years 2 - 5
7 – 12 years 5 - 10
12 – young adult 10

BEDTIME AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE

If you want to strengthen the bond between you and your child, boost their self –esteem, help them love their bodies and calm them down when they are tired or hyperactive, then a daily massage is worth the time. Here’s how to use the SERENO Sleep Time Body Oil on children of different age-groups:

  • For babies, you can massage the whole body.
  • For toddlers not used to massage, you may want to start with their hands or feet. As they get used to it, they will relax and begin to enjoy the massage.
  • The older the child, the less area you can cover although I always advice a whole body massage as often as you can. If not, at least start with their feet!

CALMING ATMOSPHERE

Create a peaceful atmosphere in your child’s room. The scent emanated by the SERENO Sleep Essential Oil will give out the message that is time to wind down, time to relax and enjoy some cozy moments with mom or dad. You can add 5 drops of the essential oil to a candle or electric diffuser (don’t ever leave the diffuser unattended) or apply 2 drops of the essential oil on a tissue and tuck it under the pillow case.

By using essential oils on a regular basis, we can help our children learn to associate smells with pleasant experiences. The same essential oil blend can then be used in different context and will remind the child of the pleasant emotions connected to it.

The product junkie strikes again! In love w/Aromandina aromatherapy from STUDIO In Athens

Wednesday, 17 February 2010 22:36

Taken from Athens 2 Guides

Today I brought home something to cure my winter blues from STUDIO In Athens. (The Leathers Building 675 Pulaski Street, suite 1600) I had my first incredible session of pilates with Sarah Schmitt that left me feeling invigorated and maybe a little taller. Is that possible after one apparatus session to feel taller? Anyway, it feels like it to me! And that is saying a lot when you are 5’2" (more on the pilates in my blog post tomorrow)

I left with Aromandina’s EXULTO Citrus Delight Oil Blend to combat my winter time blues. I am so so so ready for sunshine and warmer days and outdoor activities! I bought the Soapstone Essential Oil Burner and just added water in the glass bowl and 7 drops of the oil and lit a tea light candle and I am feeling revived! The brochure suggests numerous ways to use the oil such as on a cotton pad in your pillow case, I might get the SERENO calming one for that as the EXULTO I bought might keep you up. Sarah has brochures and is knowledgeable as she has used several of the scents and products. They have body mists and bath Soaks and more.

EXULTO Citrus Delight-This fruity and citrusy essential oil blend is perfect for days when you feel low and lethargic. The oils contained in it help uplift the spirits, balance out emotions, refresh the mind and energize the body. Use it to combat symptoms of seasonal depression or simply to liven up your day.

Aromatherapy for Seasonal Affective Disorder

Written by Cristina Proano-Carrion Wednesday, 20 January 2010 22:58

If you feel bogged down by cold and gloomy weather, you may be suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD (yes, ‘winter blues’ is officially a clinical disorder). Just like its abbreviation, Seasonal Affective Disorder is not a pleasant state to be in. You may be a victim if you suffer from one or more of the following symptoms [1]:

• Moderate to severe depression    • Food cravings   • Lack of focus • Lethargy and chronic fatigue    • Low immunity levels    • Loss of libido   • Weight gain    • Excessive sleepiness    • Mood swings

SAD is usually triggered by a lack of sunlight and physical activity. The fact that the days are colder and shorter does not help either. No wonder then, many of us would rather spend the day tucked in bed or head for a tropical vacation. There is no reason however to let the winter gloom get to you and dampen your spirits.

Scientific research has shown that people suffering from seasonal depression are relatively more sensitive to smells and respond well to the aromas of essential oils [2]. Here are some oils that are highly effective in restoring the mind-body balance and uplifting the mood:

  • Bergamot – The fresh, tangy scent has a balancing effect on the mind and calms undesirable emotions like stress, anxiety, sadness and anger. It also restores confidence and energy.
  • Orange, Mandarin and Lemon – Citrusy scents are known to energize, rejuvenate and uplift – perfect for reviving your zest during cold winter months.
  • Grapefruit – One of the most versatile and feel-good scents, it is well-known for its natural anti-depressive properties. It also helps is balancing out the hormones.
  • Clary Sage – This sweet and earthy scent nourishes the soul and induces a feeling of euphoria, self-confidence and inner peace.
  • Ylang Ylang – A sensual scent that is relaxing and mildly sedative - especially useful if you have been battling stress and mental fatigue.
  • Jasmine – The exotic floral aroma of Jasmine spreads cheer and freshness.

Take a whiff to rev up your energy levels. Essential oils for Seasonal Affective Disorder may be used in one of the following ways:

  • Massage – The recommended essential oil is blended with carrier oil and massaged all over the body. The fragrance alleviates feelings of depression while the comfort of human touch evokes confidence and reassurance.
  • Diffusion – The physical environment is impregnated with the aroma of essential oils for a long-lasting and sustained effect. Use an aromatherapy diffuser: Fill the bowl with water, add 5-15 drops of essential oil, light the candle and enjoy.
  • Baths –Fill your bath with warm water and add 10 drops of essential oil to it along with ½ cup unscented salt. This is one of the most important and effective forms of treatment in aromatherapy. Avoid orange essential oil in the bath as it may irritate the skin.

Seven Solutions for your New Year's Resolutions

Written by Cristina Proano-Carrion Tuesday, 05 January 2010 22:50

Natural essential oils can help shape up your body in many ways but they can do so only when coupled with an appropriate diet and exercise plan. Essential oils accelerate the weight loss process by eliminating toxins and toning up the body so that you see faster and better results.

OBSTACLE 1: Low immunity, chest congestion and inability to breathe well
  • Solution: RESPIRO Immune Support Essential Oil
  • Why: Supports and strengthens the immune response by fighting off germs and stimulating the activity of the organs and cells involved.
  • How: Rub 2 drops between the palms of your hands and breathe deeply.
OBSTACLE 2: Muscle pain and cramps
  • Solution: ALIVIO Pain Begone Body Oil and ALIVIO Andean Bath Soak
  • Why:  Maintains muscle tone, alleviates pain caused by muscle cramps or swelling and improves circulation and lymphatic flow.
  • How:  For warming up the muscles, gently massage the limbs with ½ teaspoon of ALIVIO Pain Begone Body Oil in the direction of the heart.  After exercise, take a bath with ¼ cup of ALIVIO Andean Bath Soak and feel all your pains melt away. After bath, massage sore areas with ALIVIO Pain Begone Body Oil.
OBSTACLE 3: Apathy, discouragement and boredom
  • Solution: EXULTO Alegria Body Mist
  • Why: Most of us go through a lot of stress and fatigue each day. This blend of essential oils enlivens, rejuvenates and harmonizes the mind. Essential oils also support emotional well-being during difficult times and infuse mental strength and positivity to help us battle all adversities.
  • How: When you feel down and troubled, just spray some mist over your face and body, breathe deeply and SMILE!
OBSTACLE 4: Restlessness, insomnia, nervous tension and anxiety
  • Solution: SERENO Sleep Time Essential Oil
  • Why: Adequate sleep is very essential to maintain a healthy weight. Anxiety, stress and insomnia result in the release of a hormone called cortisol that makes us want to binge on sugary foods and promotes the accumulation of fats in our body. Cortisol also destroys muscle tissue and weakens the brain, bones and immune system.
  • How: Induce an atmosphere of peace and relaxation in your bedroom. Keep your essential oil diffuser next to your bed and breathe deeply before closing your eyes.
OBSTACLE 5: Poor muscle tone, food cravings and poor lymphatic drainage
  • Solution: Claro Essential Oil and CLARO Detoxing Body Oil
  • Why: It is not the stomach that lets you know that you are full but your hypothalamus. Inhaling the CLARO Essential Oil Blend induces the hypothalamus to send a message to the stomach that you are no longer hungry and also triggers positive reactions in the brain. The essential oils in the CLARO Detoxing Body Oil are very effective in soothing the skin and eliminating excess water and fat in the tissues.
  • How: When you are hit by a food craving or feel like over-eating, take three sniffs of CLARO Essential Oil blend through each nostril. Massage CLARO Detoxing Body Oil over your body in a circular motion twice a day.
OBSTACLE 6: Low energy levels, fatigue and lack of concentration
  • Solution: VIGOR Energia Essential Oil Blend
  • Why: Essential oils in this blend infuse health, energy and vitality in the body by providing adrenal support enhancing memory and cleansing the system of toxins.
  • How: Place 3-4 drops of essential oil on a tissue and inhale for a great energizing effect.
OBSTACLE 7: Feminine imbalances, low self -esteem and lack of body awareness
  • Solution: RADIARE Essential Oil
  • Why: A soothing, uplifting, calming and restorative blend of floral oils that make us feel beautiful and confident from within.
  • How: Place 3-4 drops of essential oil on a tissue and inhale every time you need to uplift your senses.

Feel Great During the Winter Season

Written by Cristina Proano-Carrion Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:09

winter

Winters are beautiful – only if we could get ourselves out of bed! As the mercury dips, it brings along with it a host of winter blues like colds and flu, laziness and a general sense of gloom. It is easy to tackle problems head-on once you put a finger on the cause. Here are some factors that contribute to health and wellness problems during the cold months:

  • The temperature and the dry atmosphere are not optimum conditions for the body’s natural immune function.
  • Winter also means a decline in physical and outdoor activity which results in laziness and lethargy. A sedentary lifestyle directly affects immunity.

Don’t let the temperatures dampen your spirits this year and embrace the sunshine with essential oils and aromatherapy.

Stop the cold right in its tracks!

foot_bathYou don’t need to pump in antibiotics and strong drugs to protect yourself from microbes when you can do it the natural way. If you sense a cold coming up, stop it right there with a hot aromatherapy foot soak. Fill up a tub with hot water (be careful not to scald yourself) and add 5 drops of Lavender essential oil, 5 drops of Pine essential oil along with 2 tablespoons of regular salt to it. Stand in the tub for about 20 minutes with the water reaching up to your ankles.

Warm up your paws!

warm_feetDon’t let cold feet prevent you from having a good time during the holiday season. Mix a teaspoon of Jojoba oil with 3 drops of Cypress essential oil and rub onto the soles of your feet. Pull on a pair of warm socks and place your feet on a hot water bottle at bedtime.

Rubbing a blend of Geranium and Lavender oils in a teaspoon of Jojoba Oil will relieve dry, cracking heels and keep your footsies silky soft through the winter.

Breathe in the life!

eucalyptusProper breathing is absolutely necessary if you have to keep your immune system going. Lack of oxygen in the blood stream lowers immunity and prevents the release of endorphins, the ‘feel good’ hormones. Make a conscious effort to take deep breaths several times a day. If you feel lethargic and lazy because of the cold weather, rub 3 drops of Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil between the palms of your hands and inhale deeply. 7 – 10 deep inhalations are enough to give your body an instant boost of energy. This oil is known for its strong anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. It is a great choice for people who are prone to frequent colds and infections.

Spruce up your shower!

showerMake your own aromatherapy concoction at home with 10 drops of Spruce essential oil and 5 drops of Pine essential oil mixed in a 4 oz bottle of Jojoba oil. Spruce has an uplifting scent while Pine is very effective against sore throats, chest congestions, joint pains and respiratory distress. Keep this blend handy in the shower and rub it all over your body just after a shower. Lack of sunlight and physical activity during harsh winter months can lower the body’s immune function and induce malaise. These essential oils collectively work towards fighting infections, supporting the adrenal glands and improving lymphatic drainage. While using the oil, make sure that you pay special attention to the abdomen as that area has a dense concentration of lymphatic tissue. After a brief massage, practice deep breathing for about 30 seconds. It has been found that people who practice this method in the shower every morning stay more healthy and active during winters.

Relax your body and soul!

bathHealth tips are no good if your mind and body are busy battling stress. Stress can really strangle the body’s natural immunity and make you more susceptible to illnesses and infections, especially when the weather is down. The simple act of using Lavender essential oil in an aromatherapy burner when you are home can calm your senses and prepare your body to fight against the oddities.

If you have a little bit of extra time, soak in a warm bath laced with 5 drops of Pine essential oil, 5 drops of Lavender essential oil and a tablespoon of Epsom Salts. This will relax your muscles and rejuvenate your soul.

Alternatively, mix a drop each of Pine essential oil and Lavender essential oil in a teaspoon of Jojoba oils and massage your feet and the back of your neck with this blend.

Liven up your mood!

burnerBring back the fresh, summery feel with citrus oils. Oils like Orange, Mandarin, Grapefruit, May Chang and Lemon are known to uplift the senses and induce a positive atmosphere. Use any of these in an aromatherapy burner on a regular basis to brighten up your day.

  • The comforting scent of Cinnamon essential oils is enough to warm up the senses and make you feel cozy.
  • Fir essential oil is a natural mood enhancer and its woody aroma can take the sting out of winters.
  • Palo Santo essential oil has a calming property that can eliminate every bit of anxiety, stress, nervousness and irritability out of your life for good.

However chilly the weather, there is no escaping parties and get-togethers during the holiday season. Essential oils like Ylang Ylang and Clary Sage induce a feeling of sociability and helps one shed any inhibitions. You may use these oils in a diffuser when you have guests coming over for a lively, cheerful atmosphere.

Unclog your sinuses!

steam_inhalationMucus membranes, our body’s natural defense system, need an optimum temperature of 65 -85 degrees and a clean, moist environment to function well. Apart from the chilly outdoors, our bodies have to bear the brunt of heating systems, trapped pollutants and closed windows. Dry, particle-laden air irritates the mucous membranes thus lowering their defense mechanism and making us more susceptible to infections.

Add a teaspoon of regular salt along with a drop each of one of these oils: Tea Tree, Ravensara, Eucalyptus and Pine to a bowl of steaming hot water, cover your head with a towel and deeply inhale the vapors.

Look and feel soft!

soft_skinHarsh, dry weather can send your skin screaming for help. As your skin loses moisture, it ends up looking dull, flaky and lackluster. Keep your skin plump and glowing by massaging your face and body with nourishing essential oils like Frankincense, Sandalwood and Patchouli. These oils can be mixed with rich carrier oils like Foraha Oil or Jojoba Oil. The massage will improve blood circulation under the skin and restore your natural glow.
