Providing a Relaxing Atmosphere for your Children with Aromatherapy
My son Juan Martin was conceived thanks to the use of essential oils. My pregnancy, his birth and the 13 years that followed have been a journey of learning and discovery as to how essential oils can be part of a child’s life and help him grow healthy and strong.
But this is not only about my son; I’ve been privileged to give helpful advice to many mothers which in turn has helped their children. I have discovered that establishing a calming daily routine can help strengthen the parent/child bond, provide security to the child and enhance their immune system.
Here are some easy tips that encourage deep relaxation for a child’s mind and body:
BED TIME AROMATHERAPY BATH
Bathing with essential oils is a wonderful experience. Essential oils added to bath water provide a calming effect and can also help alleviate aches and pains. The table below will guide you on the correct age-appropriate dose for your child:

BEDTIME AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE
If you want to strengthen the bond between you and your child, boost their self –esteem, help them love their bodies and calm them down when they are tired or hyperactive, then a daily massage is worth the time. Here’s how to use the SERENO Sleep Time Body Oil on children of different age-groups:
- For babies, you can massage the whole body.
- For toddlers not used to massage, you may want to start with their hands or feet. As they get used to it, they will relax and begin to enjoy the massage.
- The older the child, the less area you can cover although I always advice a whole body massage as often as you can. If not, at least start with their feet!
CALMING ATMOSPHERE
Create a peaceful atmosphere in your child’s room. The scent emanated by the SERENO Sleep Essential Oil will give out the message that is time to wind down, time to relax and enjoy some cozy moments with mom or dad. You can add 5 drops of the essential oil to a candle or electric diffuser (don’t ever leave the diffuser unattended) or apply 2 drops of the essential oil on a tissue and tuck it under the pillow case.
By using essential oils on a regular basis, we can help our children learn to associate smells with pleasant experiences. The same essential oil blend can then be used in different context and will remind the child of the pleasant emotions connected to it.
